The names of my great-great grandparents, John and Isabella Waddell, are shown below on the 1871 Census of Lambton County, Ontario. At that time, John is aged 56 and Isabella aged 49. John's widowed father, George Waddell, is living with them as well at age 89. Not listed is their eldest, Hannah, who had married in 1862 and their daughter Helen who died in 1852 at age 3.

Ten of their twelve children are listed on this census:

                     John          20
                     Margaret   27
                     Ellen J      16
                     Emily        11
                     William     13
                     David         9
                     Mary          3
                     Matilda     18

John had emigrated from Glasgow, Scotland with his parents and siblings on the Brock arriving in Lanark County, Ontario in August 1820. Many of his family moved from Lanark to Lambton around 1834. He had married Isabella Morrison in Plympton Township on Christmas Day 1840.

Their property was on the West Half of Lot 1 Concession 4 of Plympton Township which they had bought from his father in 1847 and where they lived all of the married lives. They are both buried nearby at the Oban Cemetery.
